Digitek®

The Food and Drug Administration has issued a Class I recall of the drug Digitek after reports of serious adverse reactions and digitalis toxicity in some users. Digitek is used to treat congestive heart failure and atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter, which are types of fast heartbeats.

CNN Reveals: Why a Lawyer?

On February 7, 2007, CNN investigative reporters revealed damning evidence against major insurance companies, such as State Farm and Allstate, which are profiting billions of dollars by underpaying injured car accident victims. The money these insurance companies are denying car accident victims would otherwise go toward doctor visits, lost wages, and rehabilitation. However, new strategies adopted by insurance companies have them making take-it-or-leave-it payout offers that in many cases don’t even cover a fraction of the victims’ expenses.

Hernia Patch Danger

The Bard® Composix® Kugel™ Mesh Patch is used to repair ventral (incisional) hernias. Incisional hernias are usually caused by the thinning or stretching of scar tissue that forms after surgery. A hernia occurs when part of an internal organ pushes through an opening in the organ's wall and often presents itself as a painful lump in the abdomen or groin. These patches may break and cause serious harm.

Medtronic Sprint Dangers

On October 15, 2007, Medtronic removed its Sprint Fidelis® heart defibrillator cardiac leads from the market after reports surfaced that linked the devices to patient deaths (1).

The Medtronic Sprint Fidelis is an electrical wire that connects implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) to the heart. This wire is called a “lead.” Defibrillators (ICDs) monitor the rhythm of the heart and will deliver an electric shock directly to the heart if it begins to beat dangerously fast (1).

MRI Dye (NSF)

MRI dye linked to fatal skin disease
A dye used in MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and MRA (magnetic resonance angiography) scans has been linked to a rare and potentially fatal skin disease in some users (1).

The problem stems from the metal gadolinium found in the dyes injected into some patients before MRI scans and all patients before MRA scans.

Seroquel®

Seroquel (quetiapine) is a pharmaceutical drug in the class of atypical antipsychotics approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1997. Antipsychotic drugs are used to treat symptoms of schizophrenia which include hearing voices, seeing things, sensing things that are not there, mistaken beliefs, and paranoia (1). Seroquel is also used in the treatment of mania associated with bipolar disorder and has been associated with diabetes, obesity, and high cholesterol.
